Japan Provides US $ 637,838 for Eliminating Violence against Children in Schools

PHNOM PENH: The Government of Japan will provide US$637,838 in total for a recipient organization under the framework, the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects. The Grant Contract was signed today between H.E. Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the representative of the recipient, to carry out the following project:

‘Eliminate Violence against Children in Schools in Kampong Cham, Cambodia (Year 2)’ (US$637, 838)

Recipient: Save the Children Japan (SCJ) in this project, Save the Children Japan will implement awareness- raising activities toward children, parents and school officials; establish School - Based Child Protection Systems (SBCPM) and advocate for school - based child protection, with the aim of eliminating violence against children in schools. Through this project, around 12,000 students and 440 teachers of the targeted schools will be able to benefit from safer and more inclusive violence – free environment, which will lead to an improvement in healthy development and well - being of children.

The Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects started in Cambodia in 2002 to support activities by Japanese NGOs to help Cambodia's reconstruction and development efforts at the grassroots level. Since 2002, the Government of Japan has provided over US$ 50 million for 152 projects, mainly in the field of primary education, health , agriculture and mine clearance in Cambodia.
